Retired UW Professor To Talk On Immigration

 

Retired University of Washington professor Carlos Gil will give a bilingual program about immigration based on his own family’s experience over several decades at four library branches in April.

The program, From Mexican to Mexican-American: A Family Immigration Story, highlights the excitement, culture shock, inter-family conflict, and questions of identity that emerged in his family as members immigratedfrom Mexico to the United States from the 1920s to the 1970s.

He will speak at the following libraries:

  • George Public Library, April 2, 5 p.m.
  • Quincy Public Library, April 3, 6 p.m.
  • Twisp Public Library, April 4, 6 p.m.
  • Cashmere Public Library, April 5, 6 p.m.

Gil is an emeritus professor of history at the University of Washington, where he taught the history of Latin America for more than 30 years. He has previously toured the state lecturing on the “Hispanization” of the United States.
